Maybe you are moving across the country or recently changed dental insurance, if so then you are probably looking for a new dentist. What is the best way to go about picking one? We’ve got some tips:
- Personal Recommendations
The best way to find a good, reputable dentist is through personal recommendations. If you are moving, then ask your current dentist if he has any recommendations or knows anyone in your new town or city. Likewise, ask friends and family for recommendations (or warnings!). The American Dental Association recommends contacting your local or state dental society, to ensure that you are choosing a licensed dentist. Finally, online review websites like Angie’s List can provide a wealth of reviews.
- Don’t Forget Accessibility
When choosing a dentist, don’t forget to factor in your own personal needs and conveniences. Do you have a large family? You might want to make sure the dentist is accepting that many new patients. What is the office policy on rescheduling appointments? If you have small children, will this dentist office accommodating to your kids “tagging along” for the appointment? These are all factors a person may want to consider when deciding on his or her new dentist.
- Before making a decision, go in for a consultation!
The American Dental Association recommends visiting at least three dentists before making your selection. When you visit, be sure to notice if the dentist’s office is clean and hygienic. Did you feel comfortable and at-east with the hygienists and dentists? Do you have any special dental needs? If so, double-check that this dentist office can meet your own, personal needs.
